Introduction

Brackenlea is a self catering cottage in the small village of Harbottle , Northumberland. The cottage is compact and on two floors, with the bedrooms and shower/toilet up a flight of stairs. The cottage would not suit a wheelchair user.

Pre-Arrival information

The cottage has a coin operated telephone; there is no mobile phone signal in the village. Emergency numbers are free but coins will be required for other calls.

There is no public transport in the village, but a local taxi service operates.

The nearest town is Rothbury, 10 miles away.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

Car parking is on the street and is free. Normally there is space directly outside the cottage door. There is off street parking available for a small charge and by prior arrangement.

The key is held in a small keystore on the cottage wall which requires buttons to be pressed, requiring a certain degree of manual dexterity. Alternate collection facilities are available by prior arrangement.

Entrance to the Cottage

The entrance consists of a low step into a small lobby area 1m x 1.12m square. The front door opening is 0.74m. A similar door opens into the cottage on the right side of the lobby.

Upstairs Accommodation and Stairs

There are two bedrooms, a single and a double, a shower/toilet and an airing cupboard upstairs

The stairs turn consist of 3 flights - 3 steps, then a 90 degree turn, 10 steps, another 90 degree turn and then 1 step. The stairway is 0.8m wide.

The single bedroom has 0.8m clearance at the side, with the other side against a wall.

The double bedroom has 0.5m clearance on each side of the bed.

The shower/toilet is 1.6m x 1.9m and contains a hand basin, w.c. and a 0.9m quadrant shower unit with curtain.

Ground floor Accommodation

Consisting of an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area, all on the same level.

Additional Information

The cottage would not suit wheelchair users because of the difficult entrance and the stairs.

Future Plans

Because of the nature of the cottage there are no plans to alter access.
